[Start-Up Plans to Introduce Alternate Wi-Fi Technology]

Wi-Fi News [Start-Up Plans to Introduce Alternate Wi-Fi Technology]

When IBM's Token Ring wired topology was king of the hill, ethernet was just another startup idea. In a few short years, the entire market flipped on its head, as ethernet's 10Mbps throughput far surpassed the original 4Mbps standard for TR. By the time TR pushed to a (paultry) 16Mbps, ethernet was approaching 100Mbps. Today, we have gigabit ethernet, and even 100Mbps over coax and gigabit over copper (twisted pair; originally gigabit was only available over fiber optic). This will be interesting to watch!

Fee-based vs For-Free WiFi Access

by Lewis on 07/27/03
Wi-Fi NewsInteresting article over at AlwaysOn.com by Scott Rafer concerning the different hotspot deployment options available now and in the near iuture. While his article is aimed primarily at venture capitalists, I'm wondering how close his observations come to the mark from a user's perspective.
